Gamma pt. 39
It was a chilly November morning in the bustling city of Kyoto, Japan. A lone figure stood in the hallway of a very lavish apartment building. After ringing the doorbell, An old, short Japanese man wearing a silk robe and slippers answered his door. The figure towered over the 5’4 man yet he felt no fear of her. “You must be Eva”. Taking her hat and sunglasses off and respectfully bowing to the gentleman. “I am, Mr. Morioka”. Eva stepped into the apartment and took her coat off. Her blonde hair had gotten significantly lighter in the past week alone. The veins in her hand as she set her coat and hat on the sofa in the living room were a tell tale sign of her actual age. She appeared to be in her late 30’s now. The elderly gentleman and the statuesque blonde began speaking in the native tongue of Japan.
Mr. Morioka: What can I do for you, Eva.
Eva: Well Mr. Morioka…
Mr. Morioka: Please, call me Dai
Eva: Okay…Dai. As you have observed by now, I am only a shadow of my former self.
Dai: Yes, it appears you have lost something.
Eva: I didn’t lose anything. It was taken from me.
Dai: Taken from you? How is that even possible.
Eva: I don’t know. But I’m going to find out.
Dai: What do the Axis have to say about all this.
Eva: Nothing. They don’t know.
Dai: Oh they know, Eva. Either they don’t care or they want something but haven’t revealed themselves.
Eva: Will you do it or not?
Dai: I trust this person that took your strength left your patience alone?
Eva: I’m sorry Dai.
Dai: I have decided to help you. We begin training tomorrow.
Eva: Training?
On the other side of the world, Jess and Kiki entered into Break Time, a club on the north side of town. Kiki is wearing a red hoodie and a tight pair of blue jeans, showing off her thick curves but not really showing any muscles. Jess hopped up on the bar stool adorned in jeans, a t-shirt and a jacket.
Kiki: So when does it start getting cold around here?
Jess: After the New Year. Probably a couple of cold nights before Christmas. Gets to be like 9 degrees.
Kiki: Ha. No I mean cold. Growing up in Europe it got into below zero.
Jess: Oh well I guess you’re in for a heat wave then.
The girls chuckle a bit and Jess’ eyes catch a familiar face across the bar. The face stares back with the same recognition. Making his way over to the girls, Brandon Cho greets them.
Brandon: Jess? What the hell are you doing here?
Jess: I needed a night out. Brandon, this is my friend, Kiki. Kiki this is Brandon.
Kiki: Nice to meet you.
Brandon: Same here. How come you guys are partying in the middle of the week. Don’t you have to work at the gym tomorrow.
Jess: Afternoon. I take it you will have an afternoon workout, then.
Brandon: Actually I’ll be there in the morning. I have a noon class and some lab work after that. I’m making it an early night.
Kiki: It’s 11:30.
Brandon: Like I said. An early night.
As they laugh, another set of eyes is looking at the trio with one member in particular. Dean and Sharise were sitting at one of the tables having a late supper after both had an evening class. “Look at that shit.” Sharise turned around to see what Dean was talking about. “What?”
Dean: I can see it didn’t take her long. She’s already fucking somebody else.
Sharise: What the hell are you talking about.
Dean: The thin chick over there.
Sharise: Talking with the cute Asian guy and the tank with tits.
Dean: Well the Asian guy’s name is Brandon. He hangs out at her dad’s gym. But I don’t know who that other bitch is.
Sharise: I thought you went out with that bodybuilder chick…Jade.
Dean: I did…it’s complicated.
Sharise: Hey that’s cool. I don’t want to pry. I think your friend just s…
Before Sharise could finish her sentence, Dean threw her lips onto Sharise’. Kissing passionately, Dean took Sharise hand and broke the kiss just as Jess stepped up to their table.
Jess: Hey Dean.
Dean: Hey…I thought I told you I needed some space.
Jess: That was a few weeks ago. I thought that we could…
Dean: You thought wrong. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m trying to enjoy an evening with my friend.
Sharise threw her hand out to shake Jess’. “My name is Sharise Harmon.” Jess took her hand shook it, smiled and Sherise. “Look, Sharise. I’m sure you’re a great person, but right now I really don’t give a shit.” Jess turned to Dean, “I get it okay. I hurt you. You hurt me. Mission accomplished. Jess walked back to Kiki and Brandon.
Jess: Hey guys. I hate to cut it short, but I’ve got to get out of here.
Brandon: Why?
Kiki: Did it not go well with Dean?
Jess: Not exactly. But that’s cool. Not your issue. I’ll catch you guys later. Why don’t you guys hang out. First rounds on me.
Kiki: Jess…don’t go
Jess: Kiki…It’s fine. You should get to know Brandon. You’re new here. Branch out. Besides. I actually don’t feel to hot all of a sudden. Like I got hit by a truck.
Kiki: In your case something stronger.
Jess smiled and laid a twenty dollar bill on the bar and headed out, shooting a casual glance at Dean and Sherise’ table as she walked out. Sherise stared at Dean and Dean broke eye contact almost immediately, almost ashamed to be sitting at the same table. After a minute Sharise broke the silence.
Sharise: You don’t have to tell me shit, okay. I get it. I mean it’s not like we’re together.
Dean: It’s not that…I want to tell you…
Sharise: And you will…when you’re ready. For now, I’m not something to be used to make someone jealous.
Dean: I’m sorry I…
Sharise: It’s okay. I’m going to go powder my nose. Then let’s just call it a night.
Dean: …Yeah that’s probably a good idea.
Sharise walked into the ladies room, right past Brandon and Kiki. Kiki is laughing at a joke Brandon just told as the two compare histories.
Kiki: I was born in Japan too. My parents came to America when I was 17. Hence the slight accent.
Brandon: I came over like a month after my birth. Then when I was ten, my parents were killed and I had to go back and live with my Grandpa. I came back so I could go to college and ended up at the local university.
Kiki: I’m so sorry to hear about your parents. I just lost my dad too. And I guess my mom as well.
Brandon: You don’t know if you lost your mom?
Kiki: We haven’t had the best of relationships. Really my dad is what kept us together.
Brandon raised his drink. “A toast then. To shitty childhoods” Kiki lifted her glass to toast, and had a laugh.
Brandon: I hate to cut it short but I have to call it a night.
Kiki: That sucks. Hey, Jess was kind of my ride. Can I get a lift?
Brandon: Would if I could. No car. I live in the dorms across the street. But you can walk with me if you like. I’ll catch you a cab from there.
Kiki: I’d like that.
Brandon and Kiki leave the bar, Sharise was finishing up in the ladies room. As the last lady walked out, Sharise ran over to the door and locked it. She walked toward the mirror. Gently lifting her shirt up, expecting to see her normal belly. What reflected back was a perfect six pack. “Oh wow.” She quickly took off her hoodie, and examined her arms. They were still the same size until she casually flexed them. A bicep began to rise and topped out at about the size of baseball. Examining it for a few minutes, feeling it‘s hardness, Sharise quickly put her hoodie back on and met Dean and the two girls left.
Back at Jess’ house she had gotten into her bed clothes and was laying out on the sofa, flipping through the channels. Her thoughts began to think about her altercation with Dean and then on to her life in general. “I’m tired of all this stress. I have to do something before I have a meltdown. And with my strength, that could be really bad.” Jess thought to herself. She picked up her cordless phone and called Brie, who answered from a sound sleep.
Brie: Somebody better be on fire.
Jess: Hey. It’s me.
Brie: Hey me. I’m sleepy. I’ll get up with you tomorrow.
Jess: Hold up, Brie. I just want to apologize.
Brie: For what.
Jess: For ditching you and Kiki in Arizona. Especially after your fall.
Brie: Why did you leave. I mean I could have been dead.
Jess: I knew you were okay. I just figured you’d be all pissed at me, because I wasn’t listening to you about Ivan.
Brie: Whatever happened with him?
Jess: Nothing. I left the restaurant, packed up and left.
Brie: Well I’m not one to say I told you so…
Jess: Yes you are.
Brie: Okay I am. But as long as we’re apologizing, I owe you one. I’ve been in bitch mode since I got back and it really has nothing to do with you.
Jess: What does it have to do with?
Brie: Well, it involves a crush at work…
Jess: Brian told you to fuck off, huh?
Brie: How the hell did you know it was Brian?
Jess: He’s the only guy in there you can actually tolerate. Truth be told I thought you were hardcore lesbian.
Brie: Really? Why?
Jess: When you started putting on the muscle. I’m like, “Why is my sister trying to be a man“. And I never saw you show any interest in guys. But then I realized you’re very guarded in your emotions. And as far as your muscles go, I think they look really hot.
Brie: Incest is best, eh sis?
Jess: Shut up. I mean you don’t look masculine. In an ironic way, your muscle bring out your femininity. They really accentuate your curves.
Brie: Thank you, Jess. You still working on your body?
Jess: I don’t know. I might. If nothing else it will get my mind off of Dean.
Brie: I’m telling you, you have to just let it go.
Jess: I saw her tonight. She was with someone else.
Brie: Already? Shows how much she really cared.
Jess: Apparently so.
Brie: Listen, I have a lot more to say on the subject…
Jess: No doubt.
Brie: Shut it. I have get back to sleep. You work afternoon tomorrow right?
Jess: Yeah.
Brie: I’ll see you tomorrow then.
Jess: Night Brie. I love you.
Brie: Love you too. Night.
The Girls hung up and Jess got up to head to bed. As she was walking down the hall, the phone rang. “What the hell?” She checked the caller id to see that it was an unlisted number. “Hello”
Frank: Jess. Glad I caught you.
Jess: You realize that it’s almost midnight right.
Frank: And? I’ve got your next mission.
Jess: Fuck that. I’m still dealing with the ramifications of your last mission.
Frank: This one is much easier. It’s right in your home town.
Jess: In Salisbury? What is it?
Frank: Same thing as before. We need you to look after a Freshman. She goes to Wor-Wic Community College.
Jess: What does the government want with a freshman?
Frank: That’s need to know. Her name is Sharise Harmon.
An evil grin formed on Jess’ face. She walked into her bedroom, laid across her bed and continued to speak to Frank. “Perfect. I’ll do it.”
